Bar Douro’s new cellar list marks the next step in our journey to share the spirit of Portugal with the UK. What began as a simple update to our cellar list has evolved into a reimagining of how we express the depth and diversity of Portuguese wine, food and culture. At its heart lies a hand-illustrated map of Portugal’s wine regions, a striking double-page artwork that greets guests as they open the list. It embodies the themes that define both Portuguese wine and Bar Douro itself: exploration, diversity, and character.
Character sits at the core of Bar Douro’s wine philosophy. Every bottle on our list tells a story of place and personality, from the windswept Atlantic coast to the mountainous highlands. With over 250 native grape varieties, 14 regions, and heritage techniques shaped by centuries of craft, Portugal offers one of the world’s most distinctive wine landscapes. Today, a new generation of winemakers is reviving old traditions while redefining what Portuguese wine can be. Our cellar brings their work together, the largest Portuguese wine list in the UK, showcasing a country whose wines are as expressive and diverse as its terrain.

The new map transforms this philosophy into a visual journey. The Atlantic sweeps across one side in waves and salt breezes; on the other, mountains rise sharply, echoing the altitude and tension that shape inland vineyards. Among them, symbols of tradition, talhas from Vidigeira in the Alentejo, schist terraces in the Douro, and ancient vines being salvaged across the country. More than decoration, the artwork captures the essence of Portugal’s wine identity: its geography, its heritage, and its quiet power.
Our cellar list became the catalyst for a broader creative evolution, a new illustrative language and a playful way of telling Portugal’s and Bar Douro’s story. That same artistry now extends across our touchpoints including menus and a fresh new website, reflecting where we’ve come from and where we’re going, a living, evolving celebration of Portugal’s vibrant spirit shared through Honest Food, Characterful Wine and Cultural Stories.
